PACE
OF PLAY - EXPECTATIONS
We
want you to know that we make a sincere and consistent effort to
facilitate the pace of play at Stow Acres Country Club. If everyone
cooperated and played ready golf, the pace of play
would not be an issue. The problem is that not all golfers are
aware, and, unfortunately, some do not care about those
who play behind them.
From many years of experience and from continual research and discussion
with other golf course owners, we know the following:
- The
pace of play for those who play early in the day is always
faster than for those who play late.
- On
our property, the front nines are always slower than the
back nines. It is never appropriate, or accurate, to double your
front nine time to project your total playing time.
- Many
customers exaggerate their total playing time. We keep good records
of when groups tee off and when they finish. Often, a group will
complain that a round took over 5 hours when in fact, from 1st
tee to 18th green, their actual time was 4 hours and 45 minutes.
We have implemented a system that accurately tracks actual elapsed
playing time, and it has proven beyond any doubt that there is
no such thing as a 6 hour round at Stow Acres.
- We
are often put in a "no win" situation. When a group
is behind, the groups following them expect us to speak with the
offenders about picking up their pace. Then, when our Player Assistants
ask the offending group to play faster, we are accused of harassment.
The sad reality is, no one wants to be the group that gets asked
to play faster, even if they are obviously behind.
